EXTINGUISH FIRES BEFORE THEY GET OUT OF CONTROL
Nearly all large fires start as small fires, and these smaller fires can often be tackled by suitably trained staff using portable fire extinguishers. Having the right extinguishers can help prevent the development of a large fire which could pose a threat to lives and your livelihood. Early action to control a fire can also enable people to assist others, such as disabled people, residents in a care home and patients in a hospital, who are at greater risk in the event of fire.
At Trust Fire & Safety we supply and maintain commercial-grade fire extinguishers, ensuring your premises is adequately protected. We can provide this as a solo service or provide a larger safety package, which can include other items such as emergency lighting.
TYPES OF FIRE EXTINGUISHER
Portable fire extinguishers
Portable extinguishers are the most universally applicable form of fire extinguishing appliance. We can supply:
• Stainless steel and aluminium extinguishers
• CO2 extinguishers
• Water extinguishers
• Water + additive extinguishers
• Dry powder extinguishers
• Wet chemical extinguishers
• Spray foam extinguishers
Trolley-mounted fire extinguishers
Trolley-mounted extinguishers are used only for special applications, where there may be a need for trained operators to tackle a larger fire, such as one involving a significant quantity of flammable liquid.
Fires are classed according to the material that is burning. The fire extinguishers provided need to be appropriate for the class of fire. Portable extinguishers are rated according to the maximum size of fire that a trained operator can control with the extinguisher. In most workplaces such as offices, shops and factories, water or water-based extinguishers are appropriate.
At Trust Fire & Safety we are experienced in assessing premises to determine how many - and what kind of - fire extinguishers you need. We can then advise on where to position them, to minimise fire risks and to comply with legal requirements.
MAINTENANCE
At Trust Fire & Safety, our fire safety experts also carry out comprehensive and frequent fire extinguisher servicing and maintenance.
We can test your fire safety equipment regularly, conduct visual inspections and ensure fire extinguishers are unobstructed. We will assess whether they are clearly visible, and have an intact tamper-proof seal
Fire extinguishers require servicing and maintenance at least every 12 months by experienced fire servicing and maintenance specialists. Properly functioning extinguishers save the UK economy over £500 million and prevent approximately 1,600 injuries every year.
SO WHY ARE THEY SO IMPORTANT?
Fire extinguishers are important as they can help you extinguish small fires before they grow, keeping your staff and property safe and saving you money and time.
Furthermore, properly functioning fire extinguishers are a legal requirement. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order requires that premises be equipped with appropriate fire-fighting equipment, and that suitable firefighting measures are taken.
